Capturing the underwater world

Being amongst the diving action is one thing.

Capturing the underwater world is another.

I love being able to document and share unusual angles and perspectives underwater.

Wrist mount

To truly capture these different perspectives I’ve had to get creative.

I currently rock 2 GoPro’s, with one mounted to my wrist.

The wrist mount gives a good view of my speargun AND whatever I grab with my hand.

Head mount

The head mount is okay.

Sometimes it’s a bit of a headache.

If it’s on a mask it can cause water ingress issues.

If it’s on a head strap mount, it can lead to water ingress from the wetsuit hood.

So I tend to avoid head mounts.

Spearfishing specific: Camera mounts

This is where it get’s a little funky.

I’ve designed multiple styles of wrist mounts, specifically for spearfishing.

The design

The designs are born from underwhelming accessories for spearfishing.

The mount sits on the wrist giving full view of what is in front of the arm.

The system utilises quick release buckles used on popular action cameras.

Which allows quick changes from the wrist mount to handheld or tripod usage.

Prototyping and testing

Over 35 designs have been tested, with real world experience.

The materials are put to the test to ensure rigidity and structural integrity.

I try and break the shit out of them, so you can focus on capturing the moment.

Right angle mount.

The right angle mount facilitates landscape shots of the gopro.

Perfect for platforms such as YouTube.

It also allows a wide crop so subjects can be seen earlier from the left and right.

Mini thumb screws.

The standard action camera thumbscrews are quite long.

For most cases this is fine.

Diving amongst the kelp and weed – it becomes a potential entanglement.

The mini thumbscrews are designed to minimise possibilities of entanglement.

While also maintaining user friendliness and toolless thumbscrew removal.

And they look neat as fuck.
